Somehow managed to fit an eight hour day into half a day with the kids.
Feeling satisfied that I’ve reset my internal clock to get up at 5am when I’m
awake anyway and just get stuck in. Missing the morning cuddles with the boys
but just going for extra one when we’re together. It’s been so long since I had
a full work day, at the end of it I feel most like myself.
Really happy with how the new book is coming along now I’ve provisionally
designed it all out. Excited with the concept of not just having plants inside
and outside but by all green areas being gardens of a kind. So a herb garden
could be on the terrace or a windowsill. A wellbeing garden in a border or a
bedroom. A holiday garden designed for partying al fresco or decorative
interior elements for special occasions year round.
Also had a lovely walk with my
eldest while my youngest was at a playdate. I never get them on their own or
vice versa so it was a real treat to stroll through the streets and even
consider sitting down and having a little something to eat or drink now tables
and chairs have started popping up outside the burgeoning bistros and delis of
Forest Gate.
Sadly the day ended quite
stressfully as my brother called to say my mum had been taken into hospital. We
didn’t hear anything for hours but finally she got the all clear on tests for
strokes and was allowed to go home. Really brings it to the fore how far away
we are and what happens in the longterm for both mum and dad if something goes
wrong.
While waiting for news, I went to
pick up my youngest from round the corner where he had been playing outside.
They were making grass heads with soil and tights and grass seeds and the
forsythia and currant bush were in full blooming. We had both these plants in
our first garden where I grew up so the colours and the scent always trigger
memories and waves of nostalgia. Lilac is another plant from the spring shrubs
of my youth. Might have to work them into the bottom of the garden somehow.
