Grey days go away. I guess they’re good for getting lots of work done but as I’m still feeling run down and we have next to no heating I’m feeling increasingly physically uninspired. My pedometer can confirm this. A salutary 570 steps by 4.30pm and an active time of around 4 minutes. I’ve literally sat in my shed all day and written, which I love, but on paper (as steps) it looks worryingly unhealthy.
Thus, not much to report on the garden front. Wrote an article about creating a cocktail garden and cannot wait to bring some of these elements in especially some privacy by way of the impending trellis and a pergola/seating area. My Heritage Herbal book is packed with cocktails so looking forward to making some of them up when the weather gets better and when I don’t feel so beaten. I particularly love making herbal syrups to mix with citrus and gin or vodka. Thyme syrup works well as does rosemary, all muddled together in a tall glass with grapefruit juice, crushed lime and smashed basil leaves.
Oh, there are some seeds coming up though…. rudbeckia, echinacea, guara, bergamot and tomatoes under cover in the studio now i’ve got my watering can sorted, lettuce and radishes in the raised beds (although really need to fix the irrigation system here so I can feed them and plant my kale, courgettes and nasturtiums) and I’ve pinched my leggy sweetpeas out above the second leaf again (hope they get a bit bushier now I’m watering these too).
Apart from that, I’m off to finish the rest of last Friday’s Gardener’s World while I cook up some pasta for the hundredth time this year for the boys. If I can get the stove going anyway, otherwise I’m not entering the kitchen of chaos. Feeling like I need something like a hearty minestrone soup but guess I’ll settle for pasta too or may have some leftover makhani dal.
How is it Thursday already? I texted this to a friend earlier. I really have no idea.
